of ability or failure to fall asleep or to stay asleep. Those who are dealing
with the problem of insomnia may find it difficult to sleep even if they have
time to sleep then also. Or they may wake up in the middle of the night and
then feel restless or are unable to go to sleep again. In general, this problem
occurs in adults only. There are different symptoms of Insomnia which can be
seen. Like sleepiness, anxiety, tiredness, depression, irritability, difficulty
in sleep, waking up from sleep early, etc.
Let’s learn how to
deal with Insomnia using these simple tips:
Avoid eating or drinking anything before going to bed – If you will have your dinner late or
if you eat before or drink before going for sleep, you may not be able to
sleep. Because our digestive system keeps working and which somehow keeps us
awake. Also, because of eating late at night you may get some digestion problem
also which may affect your sleep. And if you are sipping a lot of water or
fluids, then also it can be a problem in your sleep. As you may need to go to
the washroom again and again, which will interrupt your sleep.
Sleep in a comfortable environment – So when we talk about the environment
we mean different things like the room or surroundings temperature, noise,
light, mattress, and insects as well. If the temperature in your room is very
cold then also you may not be able to sleep. Or if any noise or light is coming
into your room, that also can disturb your sleep. Other than these things, if
there are mosquitoes in your room, then they can also keep you awake, so use a
mosquito repellent. If the mattress is very hard then also you may find
difficult to sleep. So, make sure that your room environment is comfortable for
you to sleep and you are not getting disturbed.
Stop using mobile phones or laptop before sleep – According to some studies, it is
also been mentioned that the light rays coming from the mobile phones or
laptops may make difficult for us to sleep. So, it is advisable to stop using
your mobile phones or your laptops at least 1 hour before you go to sleep. This
may help you to deal with insomnia.
Limit bedtime activities – We often have the habit to do most of our chores at
night sitting on the bed. Whether it is making a planner for the next day or
making balance sheet, or checking emails, etc. It will be great if you can finish
this before coming to bed. Because, doing these things while sitting on the bed
before sleep, sometimes makes us do it for long hours without making us realize
that it’s too late to sleep. And this happens because of the comfort we get on
our bed.
Say no to caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol – During the day, we often take
caffeine in the form of coffee to keep us energetic while doing work. But a cup
or 2 is fine, but more than that may create problems in sleep. Even the
nicotine and alcohol intake can also make you feel restless throughout the
night. So, try to avoid it as much as possible.
Make a routine for your sleep – When you will go for sleep at the
same time every day and will wake up at the same time every day, it will
develop a habit. And this will make you fall asleep or you will automatically start feeling sleepy at that particular hour. With
this healthy habit, you will be able to deal with insomnia.
If still your insomnia
problem is not resolved, then visit a doctor. As a doctor can check your past
records of sleep disorders and can help you accordingly.
