List of Food Items to avoid during Monsoon


Monsoon surely gives the relief from the scorching heat, but it does bring different diseases with it. And as the rain is already here, so we want you to be aware of what not to eat during monsoon. Because one of the reasons for the monsoon flu and infection can be the food items also. So let’s know about few food items which we all should avoid during monsoon.





Green Leafy Vegetables – Don’t be surprised, that why we are asking you not to eat green vegetables especially when they are rich in nutrients. There is no doubt how good the green leafy vegetables are for us. But even the doctors will ask you to avoid it during the monsoon. The reason behind avoiding the green leafy vegetables is that the chances of having bacteria present in them are more during the monsoon. Also, because of the dirt present on them, makes them unhygienic to eat during the monsoon.  It can lead to infection in your digestive system. And if you really want to have them, then it is better to wash them properly and then only cook them. But we will suggest you to avoid eating raw green leafy vegetable and eat cooked one if you want to.

Shakes and Juices from vendors – With summer comes the different shakes as well. And it’s hard for us to avoid these shakes. But having these shakes and fruit juices from the outside vendors during monsoon is really not a good idea. With monsoon comes the humidity as well and it does bring a lot of bacteria with it present in our surrounding. The fruit juices and shakes are not prepared using the fresh fruits. They are made from fruits which were cut hours before. So, they may have come in contact with the bacteria. Also, as the fruits were cut before so they are stale as well. Consuming these can affect our health, so it is better to avoid it. Better you prepare the shakes or fruit juices at home from fresh fruits.

Sea Food – Monsoon is the season in which the fish breeding takes place. And most of the seafood items like prawns breeding is also done in this season only. So, you should avoid eating seafood for some time and if you want to eat it then avoid eating it in restaurants. And it’s better to get a fresh fish and then eat it. Else, if you want to eat non-veg, there are other options also like mutton or chicken.

Fried Food Items – With monsoon comes the craving for pakodas, samosas, and chaat. And in almost every household there is a demand for these tempting food items. But you will definitely not love it, what happens next when you eat fried food items. And that is the upset stomach, bloating, and other digestion related problems. The cause for the same is the humid climate during the monsoon. Because it makes the process of digestion slow and that is why eating all these fried food items may affect our digestive system.

Roadside food items – You will see many food vendors around the roadside during the monsoon. But it is always recommended to not consume roadside food items, especially in which the water is being used like golgappa or panipuri. Because of being prepared in open during the monsoon, they come in contact with the dust and the bacteria also. So, avoiding them is the best thing to do. As sometimes because of the contaminated water, you may get diseases like Jaundice also.

Fizzy and Carbonated Drinks – The minerals in our body get reduced due to these fizzy and carbonated drinks. It also leads to the decrease in activity of enzymes related to digestion. This makes the condition of our digestive system poor and causes problem-related to digestion. So it’s best to avoid these drinks and instead go for home made nimbu paani or coconut water instead of these drinks. You can also sip the ginger tea or lemon tea during the monsoon. It is good for your digestion system.

Try to avoid all the food items from outside and better eat home-cooked food during monsoon season.
